“You are such a star and we are very lucky to have you teaching Isabelle!” - Vanessa L.
I’ve been a private photography teacher since 2016. Many describe my way of teaching as mentoring, due to my friendly and empathetic nature. I advise on photographic business too.
I have come to find that I absolutely LOVE teaching! It is the most rewarding thing I have ever done, and I’ve spent much time volunteering and working within the charity sector, but nothing has been as rewarding as passing my knowledge on in a compassionate and understanding way. My hope is to teach my students everything I know, so that they can use it as a base and go even further. My dream is to have the ‘student becomes the master’ moment, which I have experienced in small doses and it is humbling to me. This ethos is in contrast to many art school teachers, if you’ve ever had the misfortune of experiencing this, you will understand!
Amid the pandemic, I wrote and pitched a 6 week photography course to Unicorn Children’s Foundation in early 2021. The US based charity provides education and life-skills for young people who live with diverse learning and developmental needs. I wrote my course catered for this. In Spring 2021 we completed our first 6 week course via Zoom. I then co-ordinated an online Private View launch event and a permanent online exhibition on behalf of the charity and the class! The course is now a reoccurring course and is open world wide. Sign up for the summer term here.
My 1:1 sessions are in 2hour blocks as I find this provides the best results. If you’d like to hire me, or would like a quote, please fill out the form and include what in particular you are looking for help with. Please tell us what equipment you use and how many hours you are looking for.
“You bring so much with you when you come to sessions - your enthusiasm, creativity and ideas and they are greatly appreciated.” - Mandy H.
“I am so touched by your enthusiasm about my website. It’s been a very helpful focus, an absorbing retreat from the anxieties and tensions generated by the Corona crisis. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the skills I have learned from you. I have had some really appreciative feedback from friends and I have, of course, told them about the help you have given me. I am already thinking about another page for it. It feels great to have an ongoing creative project.” - Mary E.
“Samia has worked both as a photographer and as a supporting teacher on Magic Me’s intergenerational project at Rochester Court Sheltered Housing scheme, supporting children and older adults to take part in creative activities including film-making, puppetry and writing/storytelling. Samia was fantastic to have on the project; she was sensitive and responsive to participants’ needs and conscientious throughout. Samia is thoughtful and approachable in all her interactions and built good relationships with participants of all ages from 8 – 80+.” - Catherine C. Project Manager @ Magic Me Non-Profit
